Waterloo
New 3 bed mews house, Dublin 4, 2019.
A- rated brick house within the curtilage of a protected structure. Passive cooling strategy, Heat Recovery Ventilation, Passive slab foundation.
This new house with restricted access for construction was built to face in two directions - a quiet presence to Waterloo lane, a mews lane of very different building types and also towards the main house a substantial brick house with handsome proportions. This mild formality led to an interesting plan form to make the most of a tight site.
It is a house of open and closed aspect, the brick pilasters create a sense of enclosure and semi-privacy to the street while the rear opens fully to the garden. A double height central space brings a generosity to an otherwise tightly planned arrangement.
