Sensory Garden within a University

Taking inspiration from a broken mirror and a woodland clearing, this proposal dissects a garden into its separate sensory components and allows the visitor to experience each sense separately. Angled and raised planting beds display plants that stimulate each sense and are arranged around a central clearing. Clearings are ancient forms and connect us back to primal human interventions within a landscape. Within the clearing, one is able to sit and rest on the benches and enjoy a sense of privacy and enclosure within the space. This allows for quiet reflection as well as allowing close and submersive inspection of the plants. Three water spouts are arranged around the central space that pour onto differing materials in the ground. The variation of the material and the height of the spout give the water a musical tone as it hits the ground.
